SDPBC 6 th Grade Community Experiences
Engage with the visual arts at the Boca Raton Museum of Art! During a one-hour self-guided visit, 6th-grade students and their teachers/chaperones experience looking at art closely. Specially designed do-it-yourself activities help small groups investigate and learn through drawing, writing, and viewing various types of art. We are able to accommodate your entire 6 th grade over a succession of days with a maximum of 60 students per day. We recommend 1 chaperone per 10 students.
Docent-Led Gallery Tour
Our trained docents guide students through interactive, inquiry-based tours of artwork in the museum galleries, making connections with Florida State Standards and helping students develop the tools to observe, interpret, and respond to art. Docents introduce students to a small selection of artworks with the goal of facilitating careful observation and deep analysis of each one. School tours can choose to view works from the Museum Collection or current exhibitions (depending on content and availability). Available most weekdays 10 AM or later.
Education Morning
Students and teachers enjoy a two-hour experience: a one-hour docent-led gallery tour and a one-hour hands-on art-making experience. Available most Wednesdays and Thursdays from October to May for 20 - 50 students. This program focuses on works in the Museum Collection. On each tour, docents introduce students to 4 - 5 artworks to facilitate careful observation and deep analysis of each work. Art-making, facilitated by a Museum Teaching Artist, connects to the works viewed on tour for a creative and enjoyable experience.
