Figure Drawing or Painting (Teens ages 13-18)

Through use of plaster cast sculpture and clothed live model, learn the traditional method of drawing from observation. Explore how to use, light, value, and perspective to create dynamic artworks. Gain an understanding of how to accurately draw, in proportion, the human anatomy. This class focuses on figure drawing skills needed for applying to specialized arts middle and high school audition Students experiment with the media and techniques used to create two-dimensional (2-D) artworks through the development of skills in figure drawing. Students practice, sketch, and manipulate the structural elements of art to improve mark making and/or the organizational principles of design in a composition from observation. Through the critique process, students evaluate and respond to their own work and that of their peers. This course incorporates hands-on activities and consumption of art materials.
