Ellen Burr is a Florida based mixed media mosaic artist who works primarily in smalti (traditional Italian hand-cut glass), stained glass and found objects. She cites playfulness as a key to her art and considers teaching as much fun as creating. She says, “I derive great joy in sharing my passion for mosaics with others.”
An adventure to Provence, where she had been lured by endless fields of lavender, was the start of Ellen’s mosaic journey and her passion for mosaic art. Since then, she has traveled throughout the U.S. and abroad to seek out and study with the finest contemporary mosaicists. She has contributed work as far away as France and Haiti and has exhibited in many local galleries. One of her works is a permanent installation in a newly opened store in Boca Raton, in the form of an 8’ x 8’ mural entitled “Currents”. Ellen has also won numerous awards for her mosaics.
