In My Presidents and Other Recent Acquisitions, Museum curators have chosen works by seven artists to highlight the latest additions to the collection. These works of art take a look at diverse themes -- from Ben Patterson’s astrological analysis of thirteen Presidents of the United States to Jeanne Silverthorne’s very lyrical sculpted fire extinguishers that include a passage from Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein in braille.
“The Museum collection has evolved over the last seventy years. We have a bold initiative to acquire works by women and artists of color, so you will find on view in our galleries important work by Charles McGill, Arlene Shechet, Takuro Kuwata, Kiki Smith, Phyllis Galembo, King Houndepinkou, and Gustavo Pérez to name only a few of the over eighty works added to the collection over the last two years. With these you are invited to explore the people and objects that inspire and challenge us to see the world anew. - Irvin Lippman, Executive Director
