Giving Tuesday – Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Museum in Mizner Park

Celebrate art and art education in our community! On Tuesday, December 1, we ‘launch’ our Annual Fund appeal through Giving Tuesday—a 24 hour nation-wide online giving event—in honor of the 20th Anniversary of the Museum in Mizner Park.

At a time when we are all experiencing the pandemic, generosity is what brings people of all races, faiths, and political views together across the globe. Generosity gives everyone the power to make a positive change in the lives of others and is a fundamental value anyone can act on.

Tax Benefits of the Cares Act

Above-the-Line Deduction for Donations up to $300

Over 9 out of 10 people no longer itemize their charitable giving. For 2020, donors who use the standard deduction are permitted to deduct an additional $300 for cash contributions to public charities.  Married-filing-jointly taxpayers will get an above-the-line deduction of up to $600.

Charitable Giving Deduction Cap Raised to 100% for Individuals

For those donors who are able to itemize their deductions, the current deduction cap is 60% of adjusted gross income (AGI).  Corporations are able to deduct charitable donations up to 10% of taxable income. The CARES Act lifts these caps to 100% for individuals and joint filers, and 25% for corporations for 2020.

Please note that only cash contributions to public charities are eligible for these tax benefits; gifts to donor-advised funds, supporting organizations, and private foundations do not qualify. Kindly consult your tax consultant or advisor about how these new provisions can benefit your specific situation.
