Art Afterschool with the Boca Raton Museum of Art

Our signature arts outreach program, Art Afterschool, provides dynamic visual art experiences for K-12 students. We partner with local youth development organizations like Youth Activity Center, Boys & Girls Club of Boca Raton, and the School District of Palm Beach County to offer free classes for students to explore their creativity, expand their worldviews, and gain confidence through art-making. Our teaching artists guide students through hands-on lessons inspired by artworks from the Boca Raton Museum of Art collection, and each session culminates in a class field trip to visit the Museum.

Studio: Science

Studio: Science is an interdisciplinary program combining visual arts, language arts, science, and math to inspire teachers and students and motivate learning. Research shows that elementary school students who receive STEAM or arts-integration instruction make improvements in science achievement (see, for example, Graham and Brouillette, 2016). In Studio: Science, Museum staff facilitate collaboration between the partner school’s teachers and the Museum’s STEAM-trained teaching artists (licensed FL educators) to develop projects that address FL state science standards through a connection to visual arts. The Museum offers this program to two partner schools, Rolling Green Elementary and J.C. Mitchell Elementary, free of charge thanks to the generous support of the Golden Bell Education Foundation.

Education Mornings

We invite K-12 students to come explore the Museum and see our collection in an extra-special way by combining a guided tour with an interactive art-making experience at EdMornings! Our trained docents guide students through a themed, inquiry-based tour of the galleries. Then, a skilled teaching artist leads students through a studio art workshop to create their own artwork inspired by what they’ve seen. All tour themes connect to Florida State Standards.

Virtual Field Trips

Can’t leave the classroom, but still want your students to experience the Boca Raton Museum of Art? We offer live, interactive virtual field trips led by Museum Education staff over Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams. Virtual field trips feature works from our collection and connect to Florida State Standards. Available themes include Portraiture, Contemporary Black Artists, and Abstract Art.

Field Trip Funds

BRMA Field Trip Funds program is a non-restrictive transportation initiative designed to fund field trips for students in South Florida. BRMA is an Approved Field Trip Provider of the School District of Palm Beach County. All K12 tours and programs are connected to the Florida State Standards.
