6-7 pm Panel Discussion
Two college students, Karla Luzardo Araujo from UCF and Hirbod Human from FAU, present their research (15 min each) on Dress and Fashion in Baroque Spain. Araujo discusses how aristocratic women became symbols of Baroque dualism and highlights corsets, silver adornments, and masks which may represent devotion, power, modesty, and/or seduction. Human examines how fashion profoundly influenced body movement, self-perception, and social interaction, using theories of aesthetics to explore the rigid garments of the Spanish court. A 15-minute film by Human follows the presentations. The session closes with a Q&A.
