Plein Air in Old Floresta: Outdoor Painting in Palm Beach County Historic Neighborhood September–December

From vibrant colors and open scenes to fleeting light and ephemeral flora, plein air artists immerse themselves in capturing the beauty of the outdoors. This Fall, the Museum’s Art School is partnering with Plein Air Palm Beach to bring this painting tradition to one of the most lush and historic neighborhoods in the county: Old Floresta in east Boca Raton. Located on the north side of Palmetto Park Road and surrounding the Art School, Old Floresta’s classical Spanish-style homes are nestled between towering oaks hung with languorous moss. Designed and constructed by Addison Mizner in 1925 (the community is celebrating its 90th Anniversary this year), the 29 homes offer a glimpse into old Florida – and an opportunity for painters to stretch their canvases and creativity outdoors this season. On select Thursdays from now through December, plein air painters will gather in Old Floresta to paint portraits of houses and street views. There will be a juried exhibition of the resulting works at the Art School March 4 through 17, 2016. About Boca Raton Museum of Art Founded by artists, the Boca Raton Museum of Art was established in 1950 as the Art Guild of Boca Raton. The organization has grown to encompass an Art School, Guild, Store, and Museum with distinguished permanent collections of contemporary art, photography, non-western art, glass, and sculpture, as well as a diverse selection of special exhibitions.  The Museum is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10 AM until 5 PM; on Thursdays from 10 AM until 8 PM; and on weekends from 12 PM until 5 PM.
