This course focuses on both the creation of functional and decorative forms using the potter’s wheel and hand building foundational and advanced skill building techniques.

Students begin by learning to center clay on the wheel and form cylinders, bowls and plate forms. These forms can then be transformed to utilitarian functional or decorative ware by adding handles, lids, spouts, feet and surface decoration. 

In addition, hand building techniques such as, slab construction, slump and hump, coiling and pinch pottery are part of the instruction delivered during class.
